DKC Gives Back: Garden of Dreams Foundation

This year, as part of DKC’s “Gives Back” initiative, we are proud to partner with the Garden of Dreams Foundation for their Adopt-A-Family program. This program helps brighten the holidays for New York City’s neediest children and families affiliated with the NYC Department of Homeless Services. As one of the Foundation’s partner organizations, the NYC Department of Homeless Services works with children and families who struggle with the multiple challenges presented by poverty and who aspire to a healthy, financially stable future.

Last Friday, we received 25 families that desperately need our help this season. After learning the demographics of these families, we received their requests separated by “most needed items” and “other desired items.” We were all immediately stunned to see that the most needed items were winter coats, boots, hats and gloves. As we prepare to celebrate this holiday season, this serves a strong reminder that there are so many vulnerable families here in our city. Think about the number of homeless mothers and fathers, with small children, who are unprepared for the cold winter ahead and look to Garden of Dreams to keep their hearts warm and fulfill their holiday wishes.

I am overwhelmed by DKC’s support for this important cause and impressed that each DKC division has embraced this effort and come together to help the Garden of Dreams Foundation to brighten the holidays for children in need and their families.
