Face + Hands Transplant: On the Cutting Edge of Medicine

On the morning of February 3, 2021, world-renowned NYU Langone Health surgeon, Dr. Eduardo Rodriguez, revealed to the world that the institution had successfully transplanted two hands and a face onto a severely burned 22-year-old patient.

The surgery—performed over two days in August 2020—included transplanting both hands and the full face of a single donor. It marked the world’s first successful combination transplant case of its kind.

DKC was tasked with publicizing this cutting-edge surgery, which required flawless execution of confidential, embargoed-style pitching followed by organizing a massive virtual press conference during the still raging COVID-19 pandemic.

DKC secured more than 1,600 media placements, resulting in excess of 3.5 billion media impressions, as well as more than 90 MM social media impressions.
